Matt Murphy works on making ethics in technology a reality.

Matt is a technology and AI ethicist. He researches, writes, and consults on how to align AI with human values.

Matt has a master’s degree from Duke University in Technology Ethics & Policy. His research and career focus on creating tools that translate ethical principles into practice for developers and technologists. His past research has focused on fairness and explainability in AI/ML applications, surveillance and privacy, data ownership, and online platform accountability.

As an AI Governance Specialist, he helps organizations implement Responsible AI, including the implementation of AI governance guardrails and risk frameworks. Matt has advised executive clients at a myriad of private companies and government agencies, including national security organizations in the US intelligence community, on implementing robotics, AI/ML, and other emerging technologies. His other work has focused on technology scouting, futures analysis, and software development.
